Our Story

We are a second generation family owned and operated butcher shop located on the original Kloppenburg homestead in Black Mountain, Kelowna BC. 

In 1997, John and Anne-Marie Kloppenburg started Black Mountain Custom Meat Cutting. The business started as a butcher shop for local farmers, ranchers and hunters ensuring they had somewhere to take their home raised livestock and wild game to be processed. While the neighborhood has changed over the last 25 years our commitment to providing high quality products has not.

With more than 50 years in the meat cutting industry, John Kloppenburg has had many years to perfect his signature spice blends to create small batch, fresh and smoked sausages. To uphold tradition, we have an on site smoke house where blended hardwood shavings naturally smoke our products giving you the true taste of artisan meat and sausage. 

It has become clear over the last few years that there is a higher demand for ethically raised, quality meats. Recognizing that not everyone is able to purchase a full side of beef for their own families or raise their own livestock we saw a need to bring our products to market in addition to providing our custom cut and wrap services. We believe that our food should come from animals that have lived well, which is why we source local free range beef that have been raised naturally with no added hormones, steroids or by products for all our products.
